The most historic city of Karnataka, Badami; once the capital of the Chalukya dynasty and 132 kms from Bijapur, is nestled between two rocky hills. Famous for its cave temples carved out of sand stone, it is also a famous religious and archaeological center of India. The third cave temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the largest and is third cave temple when arranged in a chronological order. The reservoir in front of the cave temples is also speckled with temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. The lake beneath the cave temples is named after the Bhutanath temples in Badami.
