This hilly town was conceived in the year 1854 by the British Empire (as their summer retreat) and since then Dalhousie has inspired many a traveling heart to make a visit atleast once. Named after Lord Dalhousie, it is rich in a legacy which very few towns can boast of. Dalhousie with its scenic vistas and snow topped peaks, lush green mountains is sheer heaven. Located 6000-9000 feet above sea level, it stands for both Indian culture and Hindu traditions that coexist with the remnants of the British Raj. The Mani Mahesh Temple and the rivers Ravi and Chandrabhaga ( Chenab ) also originate from Dalhousie.
