The district of Palakkad, a land of valleys, hillocks, rivers, forests, mountain streams, dams and irrigation projects, is located 80 Kms northeast from Trichur and 50 Kms southwest of Coimbatore . Situated at the foot of the Western ghats , this is the gate way of Kerala from the north. Palakkad, also described as the granary of the state of Kerala, derives its name from the Malayalam word Pala (aisteria scholars) and Kadu( forest) which means that this place was once a beautiful stretch of forests covered which the sweet scented flowers of the Pala tree.
