Sawai Madhopur’s name changed after Raja Jai Singh II, encountered the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, whose help he required to ensure further domain extension in the Deccan. After Jai Singh’s denial, he was summoned to Delhi and there he was trialed before the court. But before his final sentence when Aurangzeb held the hand of the little king, the latter displayed his wit by saying that Aurangzeb has taken his hand just as a groom takes the responsibility of the bride upon his shoulders and he too will seek protection from Aurangzeb in future and will also listen to his proposal. This impressed the former and he conferred upon him the title of Sawai, meaning quarter. Thus the name of the place gained its honor from the Mughal Emperor. The place Sawai Madhopur is famous for its National Park for the conservation of the Tigers which were on the verge of extinction during the last few decades. So, in order to ensure safe and peaceful breeding ground to them and also to ensure gradual increment in their numbers these projects have been tremendously beneficial.Sawai Madhopur is also a renowned site of tourism because many tourists visit the land for its lush green landscape and also the natural tiger habitat is an additional advantage to the tourists.
