Shekhawati, named after its ruler Rao Shekha, is not just a town or fort but a semi desert region in north Rajasthan. It is situated in the triangle between Delhi-Bikaner-Jaipur.The towns that constitute the region of Shekhawati are eminent for their amazing painted havelis. The region is replete with wonderful buildings adorned with beautiful wall paintings constructed by the Rajputs and Marwari traders. The area has been rightly called an 'Open Air Art Gallery' with mansions, temples, wells, cenotaphs….all covered with frescoes.Shekhawati is dotted with many towns and villages, each with its own wonderful spectacular havelis. The main towns are Nawalgarh, Mandawa, Jhunjunu, Fatehpur, Pilani, dundlod and Mukundgarh.
