History
Legends from the Hindu mythology credit lord Parshuram, an incarnation
of lord Vishnu with the creation of Goa. Goa has a long history dating
back to the 3rd century B.C. Down centuries, Goa has been ruled by myriad
dynasties, but 451 years of Portuguese rule have imbued Goa’s culture
with the vibrant Mediterranean flavor. Goa was liberated by the Indian
army from Portuguese colonization on Dec.19, 1961. In 1987, Goa was conferred
statehood. |
