to do
Visit the heart of the city, the mall: the
main shopping arena with shops lodged in buildings reminiscent of the Victorian rule. Go for a pleasant walk , away from the hustle

many famous personalities have performed and boasts of notable
performances unlike any other. The viceregal lodge is one
of the most beautiful buildings in Simla: once upon a time the
summer rest house of Lord Dufferin.
The ‘toy train’ is another exciting part of a visit
to Simla. The inviting chadwick falls lie in the vicinity
of the Simla, offering a break from the town’s feverish
yet sluggish activities. The mall sells
good woolens while the tibetan market offers an array of goods
such as T-Shirts, bags etc.. Numerous restaurants in shimla offer
‘pahadi’ cuisine. |

Many will be surprised to know that there
are some 2000 gods worshipped in himachal. In December, Halda
is celebrated in lahaul with full fervour, which marks the onset of
the New Year. Two important fairs are also held at Rampur, 140
kms. Simla also
becomes the venue of lavi fair : the biggest trade fair

Scottish
civil servant built Simla?s first british summer home in
1822, and by the latter part of the 19th century it became the
summer capital of the British Raj. Many Britons sought recluse
in this quaint little town, with weather typically
suited to the Englishmen. Simla is dotted with monuments and a
Victorian aura: hallmark of the british rule. Shimla is named
after Shyamla Devi, an incarnation of the fierce Goddess Kali. |

How to get there
The airport nearest to Shimla is Jubarhatti Airport. Simla is connected
via road to places and the toy train is also linked to Kalka. |
