Festivals
Trivandrum being the capital of Kerela is the
focal point for the celebration of festivals. A few festivals which
are a distinctive feature of Trivandrum are listed below -
The Village Fair
To enable the visitors to see and visualize how people of Kerala in earlier
days went about their lives. The festival lasts for a week from
3rd January. The village is set near Kovalam with displays of cultural
performances. The village is tried to be made as authentic as possible
with artisans, temple etc.
The Great Elephant Race
101 elephants march from Thrissur on the 17th of January and reach Thiruvananthapuram.
Boat races and folk art performances are arranged during this period.
The festival is concluded on the fourth day at Kovalam.
Food Festival
The festival is conducted during the 2nd week of February. Chef
stalls for each state are organized and the duration of the festival is
seven days. |

‘Trivandrum’,
the name is an anglicized version of the original name- ‘Tiru
Anantha puram’ the town of Lord Anantha. This city emerges
time and again, in ancient tradition, folklore and literature.
It was a great centre of intellect and artistic activities in
those days. |

Trivandrum is connected via air to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai - Trivandrum international
airport is situated at Valiyathura - 6 kms. from the city. Trivandrum
is linked via rail too. Trivandrum is also accessible by road. |
