Events & Festivals In Andman-And-NicobarFestivals - All the major Indian festivals are celebrated on the islands. Fairs and Other Events Island Tourism Festival - Aimed at promoting the islands as a holiday destination, the festival held for 10 days in December-January every year showcases the cultural and social aspects of the islands. Apart from exhibits which portray the developments made so far on the islands. Indian and International artists perform at the festival. The tribals who are indigenous to the islands also showcase their talent during the festival. Water Sports Competitions including the popular Nicobari Hodi Race are held during the festivities. Scuba Diving, Canoe Race are the other attractions at the festival. There is something for everyone during the festival with choc-a-block full of activities including Magic Shows, Puppet Shows to engage the children, a floating restaurant to add to the charm and magic of the place. Subash Mela - Held on the Havelock Islands, this is an annual event coinciding with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, who was imprisoned here at the Cellular Jail. The weeklong festivities feature a wide array of cultural events. Vivekananda Mela - Organised in January every year, the festival celebrates the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Held at the Neil Island, the festival is a time of joyous merrymaking. Block Mela - Held at Diglipur in January, February every year the festival gives an insight into the lives of the tribal people. Tourists visiting the islands during this time can aim to understand the daily life and activities of the different tribes.
