About JetLite Airlines (Formerly AirSahara)
In a major announcement on 17 th July 2007, Jet Airways announced its plan to re-launch the Air Sahara as
Jet Lite , which will be primarily operated as a low Cost Carrier. The basic structure of
Jet lite's services will feature services somewhere between that of full service Airliner and a Low cost carrier. The features that
Jet Lite will be providing as a part of this new segment has not been clearly defined as of yet, but some key features have been laid out.
Jet Lite's flight will have tickets priced lesser than that of Jet Airways but may be costlier than that of low cost flyers. Also the passengers will not have to pay for their meals on board
Jet Lite flights.
The merging of the fleets and structure of the two Airlines will create new opportunities in terms of cost reduction and supply facilities. And the synergy may actually help Jet Airways on the long run.
With the creation of this new segment by
Jet Lite Airways the competition in the already cut throat Indian Aviation Industry may get even harder. Although Air Sahara's current plans for International flights have been shelved to ease the transition into
Jet lite , there are definite plans to re start the services especially on the India-Malaysia Route on which the Air Sahara had been Permitted to fly previously, though they may be done through a Jet Airways platform.
Jet Lite Airlines ' overhaul is also expected to boost its fleet of aircrafts, as it is expecting the delivery of 10 Boeing 737-800 aircraft which were ordered last year by the Air Sahara. Definitely the initial moves by the newly formed
Jet Lite will be closely monitored by other airliners as well as passengers who may get more benefits from the creation of this new Segment in the Indian Domestic Aviation Scene.
