Hotels in Badami The most historic city of Karnataka, Badami; once the capital of the Chalukya dynasty and 132 kms from Bijapur, is nestled between two rocky hills. Famous for its cave temples carved out of sand stone, it is also a famous religious and archaeological center of India. The third cave temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the largest and is third cave temple when arranged in a chronological order. The reservoir in front of the cave temples is also speckled with temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. The lake beneath the cave temples is named after the Bhutanath temples in Badami.

Cave Temples
A series of temples that dot the reservoir are dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva known by the name Vishnu and Shiva temples. Beneath the cave temples lie the Bhutanatha temples that face the Bhutanatha lake.

Jain Temple
A number of Jain temples and a figure of Parshwanatha are the landmarks of this city as they stand atop a cliff.

Nataraja Temple
The eighteen-armed Nataraja striking 81 dance poses is the unique center of attraction here. Believed to be the first cave temple, it is one of its own kinds in the whole of India.

Vishnu Temple
The largest third cave temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the most ornamental temple in Badami. There are wonderful bracket figures on the piers and also some paintings on the ceiling. Some splendid carvings of the composite god who is half Shiva and half Vishnu, Hindu pantheon, such as Narasimha, the half-man-half-god lion incarnation of Vishnu, Harihara, Narayana sitting as well as reclining on the snake 'Shesh' or 'Anantha' (eternity) are also there.

Lake
The water of this lake to said to have the healing properties. A bracy dip in the serene waters of this lake is said to cure leprosy.

Archaeological Museum
This museum set up by the Archaeological Survey of India houses artifacts of local sculptures including the remarkable Lajja-Gauri images of fertility cult.
