Kolkata is an important market in the Eastern Part of India. It is famous for a variety of things including the Shantiniketan, Tant and Baluchari Sarees, leather goods, Bankura Horses, Dhokra Metal Works, beautiful children's wear. Mouth-watering Rasgollas are another specialty in this long shopping list. Tins of these soft, juicy sweet make an excellent gift item for friends and relatives.


Among the important marketplaces in Kolkata is New Market. Here you can hope to find anything from jewellery to clothes to metal art to shoes etc. arranged merchandise wise in its 2000 stalls. New Market is an ideal place to catch a good bargain as well. Also, in this market is Nahoums, Kolakata's oldest and most famous bakery.


Burra Bazaar is yet another popular shopping hub in Kolkata. The market sells everything at wholesale rates. You can catch a good deal on home furnishings, decorative items, clothes etc.


To buy the famous Tangail and Baluchari Sarees in Kolkata, head out to Toontooni on 10 Satyen Dutta Road or Kundahar on 10 Sarat Banerjee Road among other very popular stores. For fine silks and exotic prints head to Ananda.
