By Air - There are regular flights connecting Leh to Delhi and Srinagar. Flights also ply on the Chandigarh - Leh and Jammu - Leh circuit. However these flights do get held up for couple of hours at a stretch due to the unpredictable weather pattern. If you travel by flight then opt for a window seat. The view from the plane is not to be missed.
By Train -There is no direct railway line connecting Ladakh. The nearest station would be Kalka at Shimla. From here one would have to take a bus to Manali and from there take either a taxi or a bus to Leh.
By Bus - Buses connect Leh to Srinagar and Manali. Jammu & Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation runs deluxe and regular buses on this route. The buses stop for an overnight halt before continuing on the journey to Leh. The Manali route is open only from June to Mid October owing to heavy snowfall rest of the year. Buses stop overnight at Sarchu enroute to Leh.
Shared Taxis are also available. These start early morning from Manali and reach Leh in the night. Similar taxis are available from Srinagar as well.
