Festivals
Navroz -Held in the month of March and April, this is an important festival of the Shia community. The 9-day of festivities are marked with good food and colourful dresses. Prayers are offered daily at the mosques.
Urs or Ziarats-the Annual Urs festival held at all the Muslim shrines in Srinagar brings people of all faiths and religion together. Urs also called Ziarats commemorates the death anniversary of all the Muslim saints. One interesting feature of the festival is that Hindus and Muslims both abstain from eating during the Urs festivities.
Ramzaan -The month long fasting observed during Ramzaan is one of the most important festivals among the Muslim community. Muslims abstain from eating or drinking during the day. They eat only after sunset.
Shab-i Mairaj and Shab-i-Barat are other two important Muslim festivals.
