Rich history and culture mark shows the past of Srinagar
Pravarasena II founded the city 2000 years ago in the 3 rd century BC. Emperor Ashoka ruled the region and it was part of the Mauryan Empire. In 631 AD, Huen Tsang visited Srinagar. Laltaditya was the most successful Hindu ruler of Kashmir and Srinagar Valley. The Hindu period that ended in 1339 AD and was followed by Muslim rule. Emperor Akbar established Mughal Rule in Srinagar and the Kashmir Valley.
The Pashtun tribe infiltrated the valley after the falling of the Mughal Empire, which came about with the death of Aurangazeb in 1707. The Durrani Empire came into power as a result. The Sikhs under the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh controlled much of Kashmir Valley and Srinagar in 1819.
The treaty of Amritsar signed between the British and the Dogras in 1846 placed Kashmir Valley as an independent and a sovereign region and Kashmir continued to be one of the several princely states of undivided India till 1947. After India 's Independence the state of Jammu and Kashmir was established with Srinagar as its capital.
