A unique way to enjoy the picture perfect locations of Srinagar is on a houseboat. These houseboats are typically 2-5 bedrooms and come with a dining room, living room, deck and a bath. These are firmly anchored to the shore. They are accessible by road or by a short Shikara ride.
Houseboats can be booked for stay either on Dal Lake or Nagin Lake and the Jhelum River . The ones on Nagin Lake are more expensive, but the area surrounding Nagin Lake is much quiter than the area around Dal Lake . The cost of hiring a houseboat is inclusive of all meals and travel to and from the nearest jetty. Expect to pay upto Rs. 3000 for a couple per night on a deluxe houseboat. The houseboats on Jhelum River are very close to the bus station and the area is a little less expensive is quiet and nice.
